a christmas tree skirt

a few months back (what's the blog equivalent of #waylatergram?), i made this quilted tree skirt as a christmas present for my parents. it was a quick sew and, incidentally, a much more successful project than the tree skirt i attempted to make for my own household... but that's a story for its own post.

i used this tutorial from sew4home. the only thing i really changed was that i used my scraps to make bias binding instead of using a solid fabric straight binding. i think that the bias binding made finishing the inside curve much easier. i also used scraps to create the ties, and i love how they turned out.

all fabrics are from sewn studio. lines represented are vintage modern (bonnie & cmaille for moda), tradewinds (lily ashbury for moda), mod century (jenn ski for moda), seven wonders (parson gray for free spirit), and the backing is a print from st. ives by sarah fielke for lecien.

i managed to get it sewn and sent in time to be used this year! in fact, this lovely tree skirt even made an appearance on my parents' christmas card this year! of course, i didn't notice this until it was pointed out to me... hehe.
