a few months back (what's the blog equivalent of #waylatergram?), i made this quilted tree skirt as a christmas present for my parents. it was a quick sew and, incidentally, a much more successful project than the tree skirt i attempted to make for my own household... but that's a story for its own post.
i used this tutorial from sew4home. the only thing i really changed was that i used my scraps to make bias binding instead of using a solid fabric straight binding. i think that the bias binding made finishing the inside curve much easier. i also used scraps to create the ties, and i love how they turned out.
all fabrics are from sewn studio. lines represented are vintage modern (bonnie & cmaille for moda), tradewinds (lily ashbury for moda), mod century (jenn ski for moda), seven wonders (parson gray for free spirit), and the backing is a print from st. ives by sarah fielke for lecien.
i managed to get it sewn and sent in time to be used this year! in fact, this lovely tree skirt even made an appearance on my parents' christmas card this year! of course, i didn't notice this until it was pointed out to me... hehe.
happy stitching!

Pretty, my grandma make these all the time.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice skirt! Love the bow ties. I need to make one too - I better start looking for fabric. Thanks for sharing. Janelle
ReplyDeleteThe bow ties really set it off! I've made tree skirts for my three oldest married children...none for me yet...this may be MY year! Off to look at the tute....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have said for several years now that I am going to make myself a tree skirt but each year Christmas rolls around and no tree skirt. Yours is quite an inspiration to get going on one.
ReplyDeleteits awesome..
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and I think that was a really smart move to do bias binding. I can't imagine binding the inner circle with straight grain. Love the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I made a skirt for my mom using the same pattern. I have one almost finished for myself (for this next Christmas) and will try the bias binding the next time.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never showing it off ;o)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty ..Love your fabrics. I need to make me one...
ReplyDeleteit is my favorite when the things i make for those i love are happily used. that is great that your gift to them made it into the christmas card! awesome, even if you almost missed it! ;) xoxo
