about me

thanks for stopping by my blog! i'm rachael, the all-around crafty lady behind imagine gnats. i have an incredible (and perhaps at times, compulsive) desire to express myself. over the years, this has taken many forms; sewing, knitting, graphic design, and painting to name a few.

i am the blessed and lucky mama of two girlies that amuse, inspire, frustrate, and amaze me on a daily basis.

Kahlin (pronounced like Colin) is eight, in second grade, learning to knit, loves Justin Bieber, James Taylor, frente, and Tchaikovsky, wants to be a veterinarian, and is so incredibly like her mama that we often butt heads. she has a huge heart, a head full of questions, and more energy than i can contend with some days. she is creative and funny and sweet... and i am so glad that she's a part of my life, that i get to watch her learn and grow.

five-year-old Brenna came into my life in a less traditional way, though her place in my heart is certainly no less special. when she was just over a year old, and a year before i knew either her or her daddy, B's mom passed away suddenly. a lot has happened in all of our lives between then and now, far too much to fit here, so i will simply say that i am honored that B's mom chose me to watch over her amazing daughter. B is the quieter of our girls, sometimes even shy or timid, and she takes a little time to warm up to you. when she tells you she loves you and hugs you at the end of a long day, the sparkle in her eyes will make you melt.

and my favorite person: Nick, my husband!! from the moment we met, i knew that where i am right now is where i was meant to be. i simply couldn't ask for a better person with whom to share my life and love.

so... why imagine gnats?

there was this period where i thought it would be rather funny to be stalked by gnats who could time-travel. i was surprised at how many people didn't see why this was amusing and eventually the whole story became a bit of a litmus test a way to see if people kind of "got it." it kind of represents to me that whatever you imagine can come true though maybe in a different way than you imagined. so, i was thinking about the gnats one day and just thought "imagine gnats" and my etsy store name was born. this blog was born out of that, as a way to share what i'm working on, what's inspiring me, or whatever other randomness comes to mind. in the last year or so, it has continued to grow and evolve as i have shared more about my life, my family, and the things i love to do.

so follow me along the crafty journey and feel free to send directions every now and then! i so enjoy hearing from you... and most importantly, keep your eyes open and never stop imagining. ♥
